Hi! My name is Kara Haupt. I'm 17 years old and I often dream about changing the world or, at least, my hair color. I like indie music, tacos, and running away.

I've been creating online classes since February of 2009. I love teaching and sharing all these ideas that run through my head.

The classes are interactive workshops designed to inspire. I'm not a step-by-step teacher, I just like to write and to create and I want to share that with you.

Summer Of Love Online Class

The summer of my seventeenth birthday I began to spend my nights outside. After the setting sun was replaced with stars and sprinklers at the park, I’d quietly shut the front door and flee to the driveway. The cement was still warm from the 100-degree day. Sometimes I would just lie there. In the middle of my driveway, my hair wet from a shower and I would think. Sometimes I would talk to God or yell at him. Or I would cry or giggle on my phone with a boy or try to sleep. Other times I just sat there. Thinking.

I love summer. I do adore fall and moments of winter and spring is always a season to be celebrated when it finally arrives. I like spring because it brings summer. And I always, always need summer.

I need those summer nights of thinking and renewing. I need the heat to boil away the grime of the winter and of my mind. I need random adventures with my friends and family.

Most of all, I need to digest all of it. With summer always comes a certain level of laziness. Though I tend to have more time to devote to making things and recording my summer, I rarely take advantage of it. That is why I am so pleased to bring my you my next class, Summer of Love. Follow along on an adventurous two weeks of art journaling and photography. I’m especially excited to show you the magic of the night through your camera lens. We’ll be learning night photography techniques and great photo prompts to record your summer through the day. Step by step instructions to create a mini album from vintage books and plenty of journaling prompts.

-This is a 10 day class beginning on June 21st and concluding on July 3rd of 2010.

-The class will be available for purchase on my Old Lady Classes site and through my Etsy shop for $25.

-The class will sold from June 14th to June 22nd.

-You will be given access to the
private blog and Supply List as soon as June 16th.

-The blog will be open four weeks
after the class concludes. When those four weeks are up, a PDF will be emailed to you that you can easily save and print.

Common Questions:

I'm out of town/crazy busy, can I still take the class?

Absolutely! The blog will be open for 4 weeks after July 3rd and after that, a PDF will be mailed to you.

I don't know if I can keep up with the daily prompts and projects, is that a problem?

Not at all. Create at the pace you want to and the pace your schedule permits.

I'm never art journaled or crafted before, is that okay?

Totally! Most of the prompts are easily interpreted and the 'techniques' quite simple. A project centered around one theme like is perfect for someone who has never art journaled before. It's also great for an experienced scrapbooker, mini-maker, and art journaler who needs some extra oomph for their summer journaling.

I can't start the class now, but would like to later this summer. How soon is the PDF available?

"One day last November, I was asked what my life story was.

My life story, uh, whuuu?

What is a life story, anyways? Do I start at the beginning, what stories do I tell? I had seven days to answer this friend back. I was a little surprised and taken back, I mean, how does one take something so expansive as life and fit it into one small project?

I put it off for a bit, tried not think about it for a few days. I could answer in any medium I chose. I got this idea in my head for a "life story box", even began making it. Because of lack of time and, well, focus, I ended up making a book.

I like books. I like the messy ones, where the pages aren't all the same sizes and they are too bulky for their own good, and where the emotions and words are thrown up all over.

A month ago I started working on this life story box and it evolved into something I am very proud of.

We can’t write it all down. We can’t draw and paint and splatter in all out. This class is meant as the bedrock and foundations of telling this story. An abbreviated version of your life, if you will. Small prompts everyday, ideas about how to get started, suggestions about the book, our treasure box, and the photos we’ll be taking......."

This class is melding two worlds that I'm really passionate about. Music and Art Journaling.

This class is simply an introduction into my process of art journaling. I’ll walk you along the steps that I take to begin and to create.

We will be making a composition book art journal, with step by step instructions, to create our art journal pages in. Everyday there will be several prompt ideas and a technique highlight. The actual altered composition book we make doesn't have to necessarily be only of the pages you make in the class, but just a new format for any future art journaling.

Note on my teaching style(which is very similar to my Life Story Class if you took that)-

I am not step by step kind of instructor, this class doesn't have detailed techniques, and exact formulas to put things together. I'm more a gentle encourager, giving ideas and journaling prompts. This class is more of a workshop, than a class.

"I believe it’s the most romantic of the seasons. I never used to be a fall person, summer was my domain. Fall meant school was starting and the warmth and freedom of the past season was gone for good. Summer was magical, autumn meant that winter was approaching and my dreaded season was going to come and I had no say in it.

I think growing up changed my perspective on the seasons. I remember hearing my freshman year that the high school years pass my so quickly and laughing at it. Time didn’t seem to go by fast enough and I was looking forward to being an upperclassman, because we all know upperclassmen have boyfriends, driver’s licenses, and don’t wear the same size bra as they did in eighth grade. Except now, the only thing I have is the driver’s license."

Sure can! The blog stays up for several weeks after the class concludes. And when those weeks are up, I will email you a PDF with the full class content for you to use at anytime.

I try to stay as available as I can for questions too!

I don’t think I can keep up with the daily prompts, is this is a problem?
Nope! I don’t think I could keep up with the daily prompts myself. I design the classes through a daily organization so it’ll be more manageable. But don’t feel pressured to “keep up”, create at your pace! That’s why the PDFs are so great.

Do I need special supplies or equipment?
I try to create the classes to use with conventional scrapbooking and art supplies. One week before a “live class” starts, I’ll post the Supply List on the blog so you can get what you need. Most supplies can be found at art supply stores or Etsy. I try to link any unusual supplies on the blog.

What’s your teaching style?
I’m not a step-by-step teacher. These aren’t so much classes as they are workshops. The prompts and ideas are gentle pushes, sometimes specific, sometimes not, that push your to create. I like having people try new things, but I don’t tell where you to glue something.
